FREE things to do at Walt Disney World Deluxe Resorts

Staying on Disney property can be very expensive. The thing that most people visiting Walt Disney World don’t realize is that not everything you are going to do on property is going to cause the cash to flow steadily out of their pockets. This is a list of the FREE things that you can do at the Deluxe resorts at Walt Disney World.

I will start by giving my definition of a “Deluxe Resort” on Disney property. These resorts are most definitely the most expensive group of resorts to choose from at Disney usually starting at $300 per night and going up from there. They are most certainly equipped with the amenities that justify that price range though. They are elegant but fun with each one having a special touch to be as unique as you would hope they would be. They also give you the opportunity to take a step out of the crazy of the parks during your visit and relax a little on your vacation!

Prices on hotels as of 9/15/2013

A lot of these hotels have similar activities to do for FREE but they each have one thing that is unique only to that hotel. This list should help you decide which hotel sounds like the most fun for you to visit. Remember that most of these activities are evening activities but who doesn’t feel the need to slip away from all the crowds at the parks by that time in their day anyway.

Animal Kingdom Lodge:

This African inspired resort is a sight to see in its own! It very closely carries on the African theme from the “land” that holds one of the most popular attractions at Animal Kingdom the Kilamanjaro Safari.

One of my favorite things to do at this hotel is to look out over the Savannah’s that house over 200 animals. The best thing about this activity is that it is absolutely FREE!

This hotel also offers a campfire at night at the Jamba house which is a nice way to unwind after a long day at the parks!

The Grand Floridian:

In the lobby here at The Grand Floridian features an Orchestra that will play things from jazz music to everyone’s favorite Disney songs.

In the evening head down to the Courtyard pool and catch the Movie Under the Stars. Check at the lobby desk or around the pool area for a sign with movie showing times and titles!

The Movie Under the Stars board should look like this

This hotel also offers a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks and also of the Electric Water Pageant along the Seven Seas Lagoon. The Electric Water Pageant is like a floating parade!

Electric Water Pageant

The Polynesian:

If you happen to visit this Amazing hotel between Tuesday and Saturday visit the great ceremonial house around 6:00 PM to see the torch lighting ceremony.

This hotel offers a campfire on the beach near the Nanes pool as well as a viewing of a Movie Under the Stars every evening (weather permitting).

This is also my favorite spot to catch the Magic Kingdom fireworks! Grab a piece of sand on the beach along the Seven Seas lagoon and enjoy the view of the fireworks over Cinderella’s castle! This is also a good place to see the Electric water Pageant.

The Wilderness Lodge:

This is my favorite hotel to visit at Walt Disney World! Just by the look of it you know that there is adventure waiting around every turn. This hotel offers a plethora of FREE activities to do all day! The best one has to be the “Duck Race” where you can race your rubber ducky around the stream. Be sure to take a chance to look around and check this hotel out!

This hotel also features a campfire and storytelling every evening (weather permitting). This hotel also features Movies Under the Stars. This also a viewing area for the Magic Kingdom fireworks and the Electric Water Pageant.

The Contemporary:

The contemporary is one of the less impressive hotels to visit in this area. It is the only one of these hotels that the Monorial drives directly through!

This hotel offers a campfire as well as a Movie Under the Stars. They also offer a viewing of the Magic Kingdom fireworks and the Electric Water Pageant.

The Boardwalk resort area (including the Yacht And Beach Club resorts):
 The Boardwalk Resort

These three resorts are walking distance of each other and many of the activities can be enjoyed from one resort to the other. The relaxed beach theme in this area makes it very easy to sit back and relax in as well as have a little fun!

Yacht Club Resort

These resorts offer a campfire as well as a Movie Under the Stars! They also have viewings of the fireworks from both Hollywood Studios and EPCOT!

Beach Club Resort

Have you been to one of these activities before? Which Resort is your favorite to visit?! Comment below!

  1. We like the Beach Club the most for its "free" sand bottom pool complex. Well not exactly free, but included in the deluxe$$ room rate :)
